Project Sneak Peek: Grown Up Little Girl's Room Before And After

Good Morning,

Yesterday I completed the feature wall above the bed for a very special little girl's room in my Modern Organic project. This wall truly turned out so amazing and is an artistic feature on its own.

The room started out as many little girl's rooms do. Pink, yellow and all things little and girly.

My client wanted a more grown up and sophisticated version for this room.The colors of choice are purple berry colors, white and silver.

I posted about the individual ideas and furniture pieces here . What I didn't post was what I had in mind for above the bed which was inspired by this image below.

I love the statement that the black butterflies make and happened to find an awesome version made from various sizes of mirrors. The results are BEYOND amazing and possibly beyond my own expectations. There is nothing more perfect for this little girl's room.

I love how airy it feels to have all these beautiful butterflies in flight fluttering around.

Anre Jacobsen Swan Chair

Good morning! I'm back in town after a much needed trip to go visit my family hence the lack of posts.

This week I am hoping to be able to actually show you some things. My plan here is to install the furnishings which are in at my office project as well as the logo. I have paint going in to my Modern Organic project which means we can start hanging some things. I have pictures to take of an already completed project and possibly the chance of a new project starting. All of these things make me happy, so stay tuned!


Today I figured I would share with you another iconic chair that I used in one of the teen boys rooms in my Modern Organic project. I am referring now to the Arne Jacobsen Swan Chair.

This chair ironically enough is similar to the Egg Chair that I already posted about here  in that it is from the same designer Arne Jacobsen also in 1958 and also for the lounge and lobby areas of the Royal Hotel in Copenhagen. These pieces of furniture catapulted the career of Arne and are still being reproduced today and used just as much.

They are available in a diverse range of colors and materials with a swivel base and have a very comfortable design. I used them in another teenage boys room and CANNOT WAIT TO SHOW YOU HOW GOOD THEY LOOK!!

Here are some images that I've found to give you an idea of how much these petite chairs can make and define a room.

In my room, I am using grey, white and orange as the base colors so I bought the chair in white and used an orange and white trellis patterned pillow on each chair. They are awesome and worth looking in to if you want a stand out chair that can work really in ANY type of space. Though they have a very modern mid century design you will see that they can work from the most modern of spaces down to a very traditional space. You can't go wrong!

The Iconic Egg Chair Holds It's Own

One of the best parts for me about doing two boy's rooms in my current project is that I don't have sons which makes it new and exciting for me. Another great part is that I imagine boys and especially teenage boys to be cool and expect the same for their rooms.

Today I'm posting on a chair that I just put into one of the rooms (pictures coming soon). You've seen this very famous chair photographed and catalogued all over the place and probably haven't realized that it was designed in 1958 by Arne Jacobsen originally for the Royal Hotel in Copenhagen.

I'm talking about the Arne Jacobsen Egg Chair.

It was known because it could provide a bit of privacy within the contours of it's egg shaped body. It is available in a multitude of colors and materials ranging from various upholstery materials to leather, and it is surprisingly comfortable.

It should be known that this chair is not for the weak. It stands on its own with a swivel base, and it is BIG! Isn't that the point?!

I would venture to guess that I don't need to explain too much more about this beautifully crafted piece of furniture because it really speaks for itself. When I saw it I just knew it was perfect for a high school boy's room for the days of friends and video games, but don't take my word for it. Take a look at these spaces and see for yourselves.

Inexpensive Wood Feature Wall

I spent Saturday FINALLY installing the lobby feature wall in my modern medical office project. This wall was intended to give some visual and textural interest and will be the focal point for the logo in the office lobby.

Since our theme is very contemporary and clean I wanted to give this space a little bit of warmth, not to mention a wow factor since it is the company's first impression.

Here was our inspiration picture for the wood wall. Mainly I liked the bands of wood and the light natural tone that was used.

This wall needed to be created on as minimal budget as possible to help offset the large costs that have accumulated in furnishings, flooring and cabinetry.

The idea here was to take 1/8" plywood which is very thin and very light. We them cut it into long strips which then had to be cut again and sanded piece by piece. These pieces were glued and nailed by hand in a random pattern similar to the layout of a wood floor in 24" bands horizontally across the walls.

The results make a large impact and are the perfect place to place our large acrylic logo which is coming soon. Here are the results.

Above was the beginning of the wallas it was being laid out.

This wall is a great example of using creativity to achieve a unique focal point for a room done with only $20 worth of on sale wood and labor. If you were doing this yourself the labor would be your own time spent creating this, which for the record took a long time! We chose to not stain or seal the wood so that it could keep the natural raw look that I am going for.

 I would use this again and could see it done in a living room or a boy's bedroom. I love it, and so does my client. What do you think?

Dressing Up An Ikea Expedit Book Case

Hello and soon to be Happy Friday!

I'm posting now since I won't be able to on Friday. I wanted to share a very sneaky sneak peek of the Ikea Expedit book shelf in a little girl's room for my Modern Organic project.

You have to love Ikea for its wonderful bare bones approach to decor, and for their unbeatable pricing! The key with any Ikea furniture in my opinion is how you mix it with other non-Ikea elements in a room to give you an overall amazing space. It never hurts to save a lil here and there.

The Ikea Expedit book case is our media TV console for a floating TV, and is also makes for an adorable storage and display area.

I will have ALLOT more to show you soon as things are really moving and shaking in this project.
