We had one of those wonderful weekends where you just start to get stuff done! I will be showing you many of those projects over this week. We also had something very exciting happen that would be really BIG for us, but I will have to wait to talk about those details...hopefully we will know by Friday.
Today I wanted to show you some progress in our garage addition with the block going up. What this means is that it is becoming part of the house and no longer a functioning garage with door.

At this point the garage door is completely removed, and the interior framing has gone up which I will show you soon. The next steps require revision of drawings and a new approval from the city since there was a HUGE mis-hap with our window elevation that wasn't taken in to consideration when the drawings were originally done. When the architect drew up our plans, he didn't take in to account that this is a garage addition and in order for it to look proper and not rigged, we will need to cut up in height through the garage ty beams so that the windows have the same elevation as the rest of the windows in the house. If we don't do this critical step you will have teeny tiny windows and it will surely look like it was a garage with some windows added which is what I am trying to avoid at ALL costs.
I did some research to show you a few inspirational pics so that you get a better idea of garage conversions gone right in a big way. It's interesting because most of the good ones that I see as well as the firms that seem to actively persue this type of work are in Europe and other parts of the world. Well, I'm clearly jumping on that band wagon.

As you can see, there is so much potential. Once we finish and add our circular drive way and landscaping it's going to look and be amazing, and we desperately need the extra space. If you find yourself in this same position, don't forget to look at what you already have. Garages can make amazing guest rooms, play rooms, game rooms, movie/cinema rooms, and just about anything you can think of. The costs are far better than adding on to your house from scratch and most of the time would beat out buying a new home. Can't wait to share more of this with you....and I REALLY can't wait to finish~
