Last week I posted the inspirations for our new office/guest room here . Though it was a huge undertaking to tackle the office/guest room in 1 week, it was also cathartic and amazing.
Remember how we converted our garage to our new master en-suite? Also, remember how we went through a huge down size from 5,300sf to 2,500sf including the new addition? Well, as it goes our 1 extra room basically became the garage i.e. the place that we stuck EVERYTHING and simply closed the door. That was until I found out we had company coming and only had 1 week to get the room visitor ready! The other challenge is that the room is small and needs to have an office space, storage, and a place to sleep all while still feeling calm, bright and open. Okaaaaay.
Sadly I didn't take before pictures which I am so bummed about (it would have been beyond embarrassing), but the afters are pretty good considering the minimal time constraints and that this was done on a minimal budget. The only things that I didn't get to do on the list were reupholstering the futon sofa bed and adding the nail head trim to my MALM desk, but that's not too bad!

Funny enough, all these colors are a bit out of the norm for me but I absolutely LOVE them! I find it very inspiring for work and life. I'll try to get a picture for you with the bed down and made up. It's actually a futon which I don't love the idea of, but we bought a temperpedic top for it and it is quite comfortable. It needs to be recovered though, one day.....
The room is small so I chose smaller scale furnishings that don't take up much space such as the MALM console table as a desk from Ikea. It is thin and long and provides ample work space. I also chose a sofa bed which can be used for seating, but then easily folds down to give guests a place to sleep. The wicker box in front of the sofa is a storage box for blankets and sheets, and my papers are nicely tucked away in coordinating boxes which give me a stylish place to keep work clutter down.
What do you think? Would you want to work/ sleep in this room? Do you have office/guest room solutions that you would like to share?

I love the rug. Is that from Ikea too?
ReplyDeleteHi AMark, thanks! The rug is actually a really plush rug that I found at Home Goods for only $150. It was a score, you can't see the quality in the picture. The ones that I've seen from Ikea tend to shed which doesn't work with my wood floors.

I finally found an agate stone from Wet Elm! It was $15 but the colors are greyish with clear & silver. Although I love the navy for my son's room, this works in my space too.

ReplyDeleteWent to Home Goods yesterday in Pines. I noticed that they have those little cute black boxes on your shelves in colors like purple, green amd gray. I know you do lots of projects with gray especially. Plus, lots of agate stones:). Just thought I would let youknow;)
